Different types of testing and approvals are necessary in the apparel manufacturing industry at various stages. Approvals must set the process to detect and correct issues before moving to manufacturing. Ignoring the problems and failing to follow the process will cause a massive loss to the company. This problem will occur in any department, such as Fabric, Design, Printing, packing, etc.

Problem Statement

The leading textile industry had a problem streamlining the garment design approval before the manufacturing division. Scenarios include design moving to the manufacturing line without authorization and landing in an expensive mistake zone. This happens because approval authorities are in different geographies and do not have direct contact with the manufacturing line. It creates chaos in the process. Currently, all the processes are using email, and that's not helping in any manner to fully solve their needs. Even during the approval process, many corrections are made, but we can't ensure all those are done before the next step. So, the customer wants to have a solution that has the process flow and the tracker for the changes to the design.

Our Solution

The tech stack our client prefers is SharePoint Online, and they also have an Azure Web app service subscription. RMM analyzed the problem statement and devised a hybrid approach and an app model to solve this issue. Since the requirement requires lots of items to be stored and reporting is extensively required, SharePoint acts as a launch platform and uses lists for storage. We designed a workflow engine to create the flows and assigned people to handle tasks. Each task will have many features, such as Checklists for task completion, a Design annotation option, and an annotated change tracker option. Apart from all these, reporting was also created to fetch data based on constraints.

The application lifecycle

The design team will create a design approval request and upload the design images.

A specific workflow will trigger and route the process based on the design type. During this, email notifications to all approvers are handled. Approvals can be serial or parallel! Two or more workflow tasks are assigned to different teams at the same level of workflow stage. It helps to save time and speeds up the process.

During the approval closure, authorities request a complete checklist to ensure the quality of tasks is over if there are any pending tasks by sending reminders via emails to the task owners daily or based on the configurable schedule to remind them.

If there are any changes in the design, the user can pinpoint that in the design by annotation controls. Refer to the banner image, for example, citing an annotation. An annotation can be an error, information, or warning. All these annotations will be recorded for the responses from the design author. The design author can reply to the annotations to create a discussion history on a specific point.
